TOP POP FINEST PCGS GRADED - 1969 JAMAICA FIRST DOLLAR SPECIAL PROOF ISSUE
This is the top PCGS rated 1969 cupro-nickel one dollar coin from the island of Jamaica.
- Proofs of this issue are rare. Many uncirculated sets were made, but the proofs were special issues and none are graded higher than this one!
- The proof sets had awful plastic packaging which deteriorated and damaged most of these coins…but not this one!!
Although Jamaica became independent from Great Britain in 1962, the island nation did not issue its own currency until 1969.
This coin is the very first one dollar issued by Jamaica!!
The obverse features the island’s first Prime Minister (Bustamante) and the reverse features the coat of arms with Arawaks and the national motto “Out of Many, One People”.
